Warwick School Gym Refurbishment

“Solid Athletix recently installed and refurbished our School Weights room. From start to finish they were absolutely first class to work with. They responded really quickly to changes in layout and provided a great standard of installation and quality products. The project was completed within 10 weeks of organising and only took approx. 4 days to finish. I couldn’t recommend Stuart and his team highly enough.“ Tom Pierce, Warwick School Director of Rugby

In late 2018 the install team conducted a full site visit, taking measurements and discussing initial plans for renovating the existing training space. This is a large school gym, already equipped with power racks, barbells and accessory machines - some of which would be retained, and supplemented with brand new Solid Athletix equipment.

During initial discussions it became clear that the priority was two-fold: de-clutter the space from old, under-used equipment and install a gym flooring suitable for free-weight training. Accordingly we prepared 3D design ideas, going back and forth with staff, before agreeing on a final set of designs.

The area is split in two as per the drawings below. The Strength & Conditioning style area, with existing power racks, is equipped with 40mm High Impact rubber tiles and Solid wooden lifting platform. Creating a level base (free from trip hazards) on which to perform Olympic Lifting, whilst protecting the subfloor and equipment from the dropping of heavy weight from height.

Transitioning to a 'Functional' area where a Custom marked sled lane is laid flush with 20mm Rubber Tiles, 2 x Pull Up Bars and 5 x Suspension Trainer wall anchors. We also provided a range of functional training accessories (Dumbbells, Kettlebells, Slam Balls, Battle Ropes) and 2 x 3-Tier Mass Storage Racks to keep the floor space tidy.

Phase 1: Preparation

Work got under way on Thursday afternoon during half term and with the help of 8 operatives was completed by the following day. We started by removing old equipment, flooring and broken mirrors. The equipment being retained was temporarily removed to allow access for installing the new High Impact Flooring and Wooden Platform Inserts.

Phase 2: Delivery

It was time to execute on the agreed design. The Flooring, Platforms, and Turf Track were laid first. The Turf Track requires two-part adhesive to bond to the concrete sub-floor, taking approximately 2 hours to set. After which, the Wall Mounted Pull Up Bars, TRX trainers, and 5 Bar Gun Racks were fixed in place. Finally, the storage racks were built and all the remaining equipment was re-positioned to allow the students to train efficiently, effectively and safely. New full length mirrors were also fitted to create a brighter training environment. Overall, a great project to be involved in and we can wait to see the new facilities being used by the students at Warwick School.
