THE MURPH CHAMPIONSHIP 2018
On Saturday 23 June, we were delighted to be part of The Murph Championship 2018 in aid of Help For Heroes.
Murph is one of CrossFit's Hero WOD's (read more here) and was created in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.
Championship athletes completed in a 1 mile run inside the Airdrie Football Club Excelsior stadium before tackling 100 pull ups, 200 push ups and 300 squats, finishing off with another gruelling 1 mile run. The level of competition was exceptional and some amazing times and score posted (leaderboard).
This was followed by the ultimate community workout in the Help for Heroes Challenge. Athletes of all abilities took on the same workout as Championship individuals, partners and teams. The workout was however adapted in a variety of ways all with the aim of maximising participation and raising funds for Help for Heroes.
Solid Athletix proudly donated a free standing rig for the event and were extremely excited and grateful to work with CrossFit Airdrie to bring the event to life. Spectators and fans on the day were treated to a true spectacle of fitness with food, drinks, a vendors village and challenges also on offer.
It was a fantastic display of the power of sport in bringing people together and generating a real sense of 'community', whilst raising money for a great cause. Bring on next year!
